I am looking forward to meeting more of you at live gigs, workshops, and guitar lessons (in person or on Skype)! I’ve been in the music business since 1966, but have been in music my whole life.

Since we formed The Box Tops in 1967, I’ve been a professional guitar player, guitar teacher, singer, and songwriter.

The original Box Tops, featuring Gary Talley and Bill Cunningham, have been touring after a 6 year hiatus.

PERFORMING:

Just finished The Happy Together Tour 2017, of 48 cities in the U.S. along with The Turtles, The Association, The Cowsills, and Ron Dante of The Archies and Chuck Negron of  Three Dog Night.

I also play regularly around Nashville with the band, Boomerang.

I have two bands in addition to performing solo:

(1) Gary Talley and The Road Home, a 4-piece band with Charlie Morgan
on drums (Elton John, Paul McCartney, Orleans, The Guess Who), Dave Hoffner
on keys (Michael Martin Murphey, Alabama, Randy Travis), and John Terrence
on bass (Billy Joe Royal, Charlie Louvin). Each of us on vocals.
(2) Triple Play (a trio) with Ron Krasinski on drums (Seals & Crofts, DR. Dre, Sheena Easton) and Kent Burnside on bass (Lefty Frizzell, The Seeds).

Frequently I do solo gigs or duos. I think you should book me to play in your
town, dadgummit! I enjoy smaller settings, too, like house concerts, coffeehouses,
and the like.

TEACHING:
Six days a week, I teach guitar in Franklin, Tennessee just south of Nashville —
in person or by Skype. In 1999 I made an instructional guitar video, called
“Guitar Playing for Songwriters.” It includes a DVD and workbook, too. Teaching has been a very rewarding endeavor and I’m glad to have a growing student body!

ONLINE MEDIA:
With any spare time, I’m trying to also figure out how to do all of this website content on WordPress right now, along with news & views & likes & hashtags on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. It’s a brave new frontier for this Memphis-born man. Website Administration? I’m better than I used to be; not as good as I’m gonna be! But, just between us? I’d rather be makin’ music for y’all and enjoying time together.
