Memphis, Muscle Shoals
New York and London
Gary’s first multitrack recording session was in Memphis at Sonic Studios in 1966. In 1967, Gary began recording with The Box Tops at American Sound Studios in Memphis, with 2 songs recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoal, AL. Also in 1967, Gary recorded 3 Coke commercials with The Box Tops in New York City. In 1969, Gary played guitar in London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios on a record called “Clockwork Man” by Susan Keely & Bobby Shaw. In 1970, he was staff studio guitarist for Sounds of Memphis Studios and also Universal Studios playing on records by Billy Lee Riley, David Alan Coe, Dave Cooke, Andre Williams, U.S. Apple Corps, Jerry Butler, Marcia Moore and others. He also recorded for HI Records at Willie Mitchell’s Royal Studios.
Atlanta
Gary moved to Atlanta in 1971 and recorded with Steve Dorff, Bill Lowery Publishing, The Atlanta Rhythm Section, Sammy Johns, Billy Joe Royal, Joe English, Pops Popwell, and several independent artists and did hundreds of TV jingles ( Coke, McDonald’s, Dodge Vans, Rich’s, etc.) and industrial films. Gary also played live concerts with Tennessee Ernie Ford, Freda Payne, John Phillips (Mamas & Papas), Dobie Gray, Turley Richards, The Three Degrees, Rosey Grier, etc.
Nashville
In 1981, at the invitation of Chips Moman, Gary moved to Nashville and played on a Tammy Wynette LP “Take Me Back” within 3 days of moving. He also played guitar and sang background vocals on Willie & Waylon’s WWII record and Willie Nelson’s “Always on My Mind” as well as the “Billy Joe Royal” LP and “In the Jailhouse Now’ by Willie Nelson and Webb Pierce. Gary also played on hundreds of publishing demos for many of Nashville’s hit songwriters, including Rory Bourke, Tommy Rocco, Charlie Black, Gene Nelson, Dean Dillon, John Jarrard, Byron Hill, Wendell Mobley, Don Nix, Mac Gayden, etc.

Gary continues to do multitrack recording for various independent songwriters and artists from his home studio in Franklin, TN. He recently added electric guitars at Darkhorse Studios on several songs by country artist Lena Paige.
